With 26 episodes of 25 minutes each, the first season featured writers from all continents, having had three licenses and currently being part of Canal Curta!'s programming and available on the VOD platform Tamanduá.
In the first edition, the episodes featured the following writers: Alice Walker, Senel Paz, Antonio Skármeta, James Holston, Miguel Sousa Tavares, Leonardo Padura, Mempo Giardinelli, Mia Couto, Tariq Ali, Samanta Schweblin, Vandana Shiva, Eduardo Sacheri, Jean Claude Carrière, Valter Hugo Mãe, Mario Bellatin, Alan Riding, Richard Bourne, John Dramani, Wole Soyinka, Kangni Alem, Naomi Wolf, Murong Xuecun, Pierre Lévy, Rodrigo Hasbún, Laura Albert, and Boaventura de Souza Santos.
"Impressões do Mundo" aims to engage all audiences, extending beyond those already interested in literature. Unlike other artistic creations, literature often keeps its author behind the pages, hidden as an invisible figure distant from the reader. Each episode brings viewers into a close and vivid contact with the author, allowing them to learn about their creative process and story. This approach interests book enthusiasts and generates curiosity among those not yet inclined towards reading. The combination of renowned names with those still rising in prominence, yet recognized by critics and part of the market and public, broadens the universe of possibilities and visibility, offering a diverse menu of literary productions from three continents in this new season.
By highlighting authors from South, Central, and North America, as well as Portugal, Spain, and Portuguese-speaking African countries, this edition aims to emphasize the literature of these regions, which hold significant importance for Brazilian culture due to their shared colonial history and the two languages that connect the Americas to the European and African continents. Brazil has historically favored aesthetic influences from the USA, often overlooking the rich artistic, cultural, and literary production of Ibero-American and African countries. The names selected by experienced curator Lidia Luther include both established and younger writers who have gained recognition beyond their countries of origin. The selection of a higher number of female writers is not a concession but a reflection of the current affirmation of women in the field of literature, both in the market and among specialized critics.
Pedro Juan Gutiérrez - Cuba, Beatriz Sarlo - Argentina, Lobo Antunes - Portugal, Maitena Burundarena - Argentina, Laura Restrepo - Colombia, Rosa Montero - Spain, Paulina Chiziane - Mozambique, with longer careers and born until the 1950s, are joined by younger but equally important and acclaimed authors such as Alejandra Costamagna - Chile, Gonçalo M. Tavares - Portugal, Valeria Luiselli - Mexico, Mónica Ojeda - Ecuador, José Eduardo Agualusa and Horacio Castellanos Moya - Honduras, composing a diverse panorama of literary genres and nationalities.
