We are Mercado Filmes

Mercado Filmes is an independent production company based in Brasília. Since 1999, it has been producing high-quality content for the national and international markets in the fields of audiovisual media, music, theater, and festivals.

The feature film "The Pastor and the Revolutionary" (2023), directed by José Eduardo Belmonte and starring Johnny Massaro alongside César Mello, tells the moving story of how two opposing forces were captured and tortured during the military dictatorship in Brazil. The film was produced by Mercado Filmes and competed in several festivals worldwide, such as the Gramado Festival, and received awards at the Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema and the Inffinito Festival in Miami.

The company is also responsible for producing the film "The Other Side of Paradise" (2014), which participated in festivals like Havana, Guadalajara, Huelva, Lima, and Rio de Janeiro. The film won awards for 'Best Film' and 'Best Actress' at the Trieste Latin American Film Festival, the best film award by the popular jury at the Gramado Festival, and the Legislative Chamber Trophy for Best Film according to the popular jury at the Brasília Film Festival.

Other notable projects include the TV series "Brasíl Clássico Caipira", which presents traditional Brazilian country music with a new twist, accompanied by the symphony orchestra; "Impressions of Brazil," featuring 30 contemporary Brazilian writers, aired on TV5 Monde, Canal Brasil, Arte1, Canal Curta!, and TV Brasil; and the international series "Impressions of the World", featuring 26 international writers. Both series continue to be licensed and aired on Canal Curta! in 2024.

Other noteworthy projects are those developed within the company's Creative Hub, established through the Brazilian National Cinema Agency (Ancine) Creative Hubs Call - PRODAV 03/2014. In total, there are seven projects developed by a skilled and qualified team of screenwriters, including:

  • The fiction feature film "How to Win Back a Great Love,"

  • The fiction series "Love & Justice,"

  • The reality show "Best of the Class,"

  • The variety shows "Street Chefs" and "The Wine Traveler," and

  • The documentary series "Monumental Brasília" and "Connected Indigenous."

Currently, the production company is working on four projects scheduled for release in 2025 and 2026:

  • The 2nd season of the series "Impressions of Brazil," directed by Nilson Rodrigues and broadcast on Canal Curta!

  • The 2nd season of the series "Impressions of the World," directed by Caetano Curi and broadcast on TV Cultura.

  • The hybrid feature film "Honestino - The Movie" directed by Aurélio Michiles and distributed by Pandora Filmes.

Additionally, the following projects are in development/fundraising phases:

  • The fiction feature film "Justino," directed by José Eduardo Belmonte and distributed by Imovision.

  • The fiction feature film "How to Win Back a Great Love," directed by Marcela Lordy.

  • The variety shows "The Wine Traveler" and "Street Chefs," and

  • The documentary series "Monumental Brasília," and

  • The fiction series "Hosmany - The Surgeon."
